The lies of Dr Anthony Fauci
For any
thinking person, it has come to a point that they must ask themselves: why in
the world would they be listening one second more to Dr Anthony Fauci?
The supposed
expert par excellence on all things COVID-19 has sown much more confusion than light.
His recent backflips regarding the US funding of the Wuhan Virology Institute and
the validity of the ‘laboratory-leak hypothesis’ of COVID-19 are more examples of
his now typical public U turns.
The only
reason why Fauci, the highest paid employee in the US Federal Government, gets away with his habitual mendacity is a short
public memory and a fawning media. So here is a quick list of the lies he has
been dispensing.
Fauci said in a CBS “60
Minutes” interview in March 2020:
“[T]here's
no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you're in the middle of an
outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it
might even block a droplet, but it's not providing the perfect protection that
people think that it is.
And often there
are unintended consequences. People keep fiddling with the mask and they keep
touching their face.”
Three months
later, Fauci back flipped and said everyone should wear masks. And he admitted that the only reason why he initially discouraged
people from wearing masks was over worries of mask shortage.
This was an
act of intentionally deceiving people about a way to protect themselves from a
virus that was becoming endemic—by a trained doctor who had sworn the
Hippocratic Oath. That this withholding of truth was followed by another
deception regarding masks, this time from the opposite direction, is too absurd
to be funny.
In March 2021,
Senator Rand Paul confronted Fauci for insisting on mandatory mask wearing even for
those who were already fully vaccinated. Rand Paul, himself a physician, cited
scientific studies, including Israeli studies that found the Pfizer vaccine
offers almost complete protection against infections. Dr Fauci steadfastly insisted
that masks should still be worn even if you are fully vaccinated, without
offering any scientific support. And not just one mask, but two masks! And then the kicker—it turns out that Dr Fauci was
lying about that too. In May of 2021, Fauci admitted that his wearing of masks
after being fully vaccinated was indeed theatre, like Senator Rand Paul suggested. He stated in an interview:
“I didn’t want to look like I was giving mixed
signals but being a fully vaccinated person, the chances of my getting infected
in an indoor setting is extremely low."
Didn’t want to give mixed signals? This from the supposed expert who stated in January 26, 2020 that the COVID-19 poses “a very, very low risk to the United States”, who then mendaciously discouraged mask wearing in March, only to contradict his own advice in June, and who then, a few months later, advocated wearing two masks even if you have been fully vaccinated, undermining trust in vaccinations, only to unburden himself, two months later, that he lied about this too, on TV, on radio, and in the US Senate.
And it get even worse. Fauci vehemently denied in the US Senate, on the 12th of May, that
the NIH under his leadership had funded gain-of-function research in the Wuhan
Institute of Virology, situated right at the epicenter of the outbreak. Now,
not two weeks later, he admitted to allotting US$600,000 to the laboratory in Wuhan to study transmission of
coronavirus from bats to humans. He also performed another perfect 180 on the legitimacy of the laboratory-leak hypothesis
of COVID-19, having previously dismissed it as a possibility.
More than a year after the pandemic began, and against the smears from a
media using Fauci as a battering ram to castigate the lab-leak hypothesis as a right-wing
conspiracy, people, including leading scientists and the WHO, are finally open to the notion that this hypothesis,
even if it turns out to be untrue, should not simply be ignored before it is
properly investigated. The recent revelation that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology went to hospital with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 in November of 2019, shortly before the outbreak, surely adds to the responsibility of investigating this theory. Furthermore, accidents in high security labs occur frequently, including at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Dr Fauci, who is meant to be the scientific leader amidst this pandemic,
has again arrived at the correct answer later than almost everybody and succeeded
in slowing everyone down who was ahead of him—Facebook has recently announced
that it will no longer censor the ‘lab-leak theory’, after Fauci and Biden both backtracked regarding its
validity. Fauci’s behaviour also has to beg the question of whether his status
as an interested party, who advocated and funded gain-of-function research, had anything
to do with his previous vigorous rejection of the lab-leak hypothesis.
Dostoevsky wrote in the Brothers
Karamazov “Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and
listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth
within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.”
Dr Fauci appear
to have approached his job not from a scientific perspective but a political
one, and thereby exchanged his values of a doctor for those of a politician. He
has lost respect for those he was supposed to advice; he should be ready to
lose the tremendous amount of respect he had from the public which he failed.
